    Default CAD 2008 from Home??

I'm trying to start a dialogue with the powers that be regarding using CAD at home. I spoke to several corporate management peeps last night at our xmas party and none had any objections for me to use CAD at home. I'm currently updating a non-existing Standard for the company and trying to sort things out so we can integrate CAD and GIS. Since I'm always hounded for billable time...my suggestion was to do some of this work at home.

What I'm asking is if this can be done. I'm not too familiar with license issues so maybe someone here can help me out on this. If it's possible, I will suggested it to our guru in the IT dept and get the ball rolling (I have already have the disks here since I'm in a satellite office).

    Thanks
    Ivan

Will you be accessing drawings that are on the company network?
Does your work computer point to network resourses like plotters, customization files, menus, etc.?

In other words, how much would your productivity be affected if you had to work at the office with your network cable disconnected?

If any, then I would suggest connecting to your office network using a VPN, and then use Remote Desktop to log into your office desktop machine from home. All your resourses will be present, and there are no licensing, install, or customization issues to deal with. You also won't have to transfer drawings from office to home and vice versa.

Actually, I have access to our server already. The big issue is the license thing with Autodesk. We have CAD installed locally on all computers and access a license through the network. Also, I'm not going to be doing actual work on projects...just working on the Standards and trying to get CAD and GIS integration to work since right now, we are separate entities.

Ok, what is your concern with the "license thing"?

If you have network access, there shouldn't be any problem. The LM doesn't care where you are at.
