    Red face DB scaling problem

I have a door that is a DB. As I insert it into my drawing, it is automatically scaled 25.33 times what it was created at. I've checked all scale values in the block editor and in the drawing and everything seems to be fine. The door width table shows the door to be a 36" door, but it measures out at 76' and change. I'm a bit of a neophyte when it comes to Dynamic Blocks, however I'm learning. I did not create this. I'm using it to learn as I create my own. What am I doing wrong with this block?

In the block editor, with nothing selected, what does the Properties palette show as the block's units?

sounds like an imperial / metric conversion of sorts...

In units, it shows 'inches'. Here is the block if you'd like to take a look.

what about the host drawing? (UNITS)

as a general rule, i always make my blocks 'unitless'

That was it. For some reason, UNITS was set to millimeters. I simply set it to inches and it then inserted properly. Thanks. Just out of curiousity, why do you set yours to unitless?

those units are there for automatic scaling, like you discovered. setting them to 'unitless' nullifies that function. (most of mine are true size, and i've yet to explore metric anyway)

my discipline is architectural, but am in a mostly civil firm. if i want it scaled to match the file units, i know it's either 1/12, or 12 for a scale factor, and prefer to do so manually.

I'm in favor of using the correct units of the block. As long as you choose the units you are actually working in it should always scale appropriately. I draw my blocks in inches, so I specify inches for the units. This way if we need to insert the blocks into a drawing that uses metric it will give me a properly scaled door instead of a thirty-six meter door (or thirty-six millimeters).

if that ever happens, i'll make a seperate metric library.

I guess the benefit is that it saves you the trouble of having to have two separate libraries. Oh, well. To each his own.

i guess i've never really thought about it. around here, there's very little demand for metric. Tried it once, client made us change it back after all the bids came in thru the roof.
