Bitmap Images inside of Symbols / Detail Components

Hello All,

Has anyone had any experience with importing bitmap images (Jpeg's, BMP's, etc) into a symbol or a detail component?

Whenever I do so, it looks fine in the family editor... but the bitmap disappears, once the symbol is placed inside of an actual project.

Ultimately, what I'm trying to do is create several component symbols, each representing a different registration stamp. For example, one for our NY stamp, one for our Washington DC stamp. I want to be able to control the visibility of these stamps within the titleblock family.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I remember images used to only show up when you render. Has this changed? You can always trace over the bitmap with symbolic lines.... a little tedious I know.

Even though Bryan asked this in July, I was about to post on exactly the same topic!

My experience has been the same as Bryan's. You can add a jpg to a Family, but it disappears when the family is loaded into a project. I've never understood why.

The next thing I tried was to add the stamp directly into the Sheet Border. I figured I could add the stamp and then control it with a Visibility parameter. Another gotcha - you can't use Visibility on an Image. Again, I don't understand why.

I have finally settled on having two Border families - one with the signature & one without. then we reload the Border into the Project just before printing. Not ideal, but it works.

Anybody know why we can't have Visibility on an Image?

I cracked this one just this week. If the symbol containing the image is a shared family, it will work. You can then have one or more of these symbols in your title block family. Since the symbols are families rather than images, you can control their visibility. I only tried it with a .png.

Nice tip!!! I've wanted this capability on numerous occasions but never realised that sharing the annotation family made the image appear in the project environment (I tried with a jpg and it works). This gets my vote for tip of the month

Thanks David. Who knows why. It would be cool if this worked in model families or detail components (cheap entourage for non-rendered views), but i guess we're stuck with Generic Annotations for now.

I have to second the vote on this one. Suffered from the same problem with jpegs and always had to revert to hard on/off in the family to get things working correctly. This is great!!! Thanks.
