Default AutoCAD Architecture 2008 Very Slow

We are running AutoCAD Architecture 2008 on Dell Penn 4 machines 3.00 and higher with 2 GB of ram. Our Drawings take a very long time to open up and there is a delay
when selecting a area of the drawing to move, copy etc. Is anyone else having this problem.???

Is this a new problem, or has it always been the case with 2008?

I've got a P4 3.2 with 2gb RAM which sounds similar to your setup and don't have an issue with loading times.

Also I'm assuming dwg files are kept on a network, have there been any updates changes to the network recently. Are all support files local or networked (including fonts etc) You could try saving the dwg locally to see if you can open it quicker.

Another also are the files particularly large?

We have Pent 4, 2.4, with 2.5 gig memmory, Nvidia graphics gard with 128 meg built-in memory. All our drawings are on a network drive along with our tool pallettes and template drawings. We also encounter longer than usual times to start-up ACA 2008.

That happened to me when I first loaded it. It would take minutes just to switch from paper to model space in a viewport.

Do you have others still using another release?
What happened to me was the "add a plot style table" wizard from an old version was still in my plot styles directory on my network. If you hover over it, it is a shortcut to a directory on your hard drive. Well, since another person hadn't upgraded yet, the old one was still there. SInce I had updated, the directory on my hard drive was gone. All I did was move it to another directory on my network and it sped up tremendously. I have no idea how I stumbled upon that, but it works!
Why is it called common sense when it is so rare?

Other things I've seen which can cause a slow down are having too many items in the History window in the open dialog (see attached image). Clicking on the history window and then selecting all file shortcuts in the window next to it and deleting them can help.

Also, clear out the users temp folder in windows explorer and then run disk defragment.

Check to see if it might be a corrupt plot style along with what dzatto mentioned.

Finally if you are running OCE plotters try restarting your controllers. I had a client last week that found this to be an issue too.

Also, if all of your pathing is network based...you are going to experience a slow down too...

Where did I see that question before?......
I can't remember. Anyway I think it happened to someone once when they did an upgrade and they accidentally added another folder. ACA kept looking until it found it on the server.
I had a sniffer put on my box once to see what was wrong, turns out it was looking for a file type that dosen't exist anymore. I was to say it was a leftover from R12, but I thought they fixed that in 06

Sorta the same thing I said with the add a plot style wizard. It's looking for a folder that doesn't exist.

check the enable / disable digital signatures. 2006 was effected by having very slow browing in dialog boxes. 2008 seems to have multiple things inpacted.

this option is configurable as a policy if you are using active directory we belive.

to change this, select any DWG and right click. At the top, under open is the enable / disable digital signatures. and select it....

    uncheck, validate digital signatures.

    you will love the difference...

WOW! Did that ever speed up the open dialogue box. I have a folder on my network for "sites". It's got every site I've drawn for the year. Once it becomes an actual job, then I'll move it and make it into a project. Anyway, by the end of the year, it's got a lot of drawing files in it and would take a while to load them all (and always bugged the hell outta me). Now it's instantaneous. Nice find.
