    Default opening drawings ....

This is absolutely a newb question .... unfortunately i've forgotten the answer and need to ask again.

i went to open, like, 8 drawings this morning. And i did what I have always done ... I selected them and clicked open. I expected them to open in the same program (window)

but instead each new opened drawing opened in a separate window. The system bogged down and I had to catarl-alt-delete (lame simpsons reference) to get everything back to normal.

What is the setting to get multiple drawings to open in one AutoCAD window?

    HM.

I guess I actually didn't KNOW that then.

    What does SDI stand for?

And what if it's already set to 0?

And what if I haven't left my bed yet this morning?

Controls whether the program runs in single- or multiple-document interface.

    0
    Turns on multiple-drawing interface.

    1
    Turns off multiple-drawing interface.

    2
(Read-only) Multiple-drawing interface is disabled because an application that does not support multiple drawings has been loaded. SDI setting 2 is not saved.

    3
(Read-only) Multiple-drawing interface is disabled because the user has set SDI to 1 and an application that does not support multiple drawings has been loaded. (SDI was set to 1 before the application was loaded.) SDI setting 3 is not saved.

If SDI is set to 3, it is reset to 1 when the application that doesn’t support multiple drawings is unloaded.

BTW, I typed SDI at the command line, then hit F1....

    AND

    Okay. that makes sense.

And I just opened another drawing and it opened up in the same window ....

So why is it that this morning it opened up 8 drawings in 8 windows when SDI is set to 0????

That's the mystery for today, i guess .....

If ACAD is already open, it'll open multiples with SDI=0; but if you are starting fresh with nothing open, 70% of the time it'll open them all in individual windows (for me at least). Real annoying, but I've just started opening ACAD once, then going after my drawings. Don't know how any other work around.

okay i guess that makes sense as a workaround ...

now .... in the last couple of days, when I have one file already open and I select multiple new files to open ... it'll only open one or two and disregard the rest ....

anyone have any ideas why it's doing this? ....

Have no idea... I once tried opening 100's of drawings just to see if it would work... I finally got bored and cancelled the operation. :P

that makes no sense to me ....

It's a serious question. I'll select 4 new files to open, and CAD will only open one. I select the remaining three and it'll only open two. and then after a third try, it'll open the last file ...

I don't know. I've never experienced anything like that before. Are you opening them from AutoCAD or from Windows Explorer? From a network or your hard drive?
