Default Layout not available for import?

I have to add a new sheet at the beginning of one of my subsets (one dwg with multiple tabs). Since I have fields in the title blocks referencing the sheet set I figured I could:
    1. renumber my layout tabs (1-10)
    2. remove the last sheet in that subset and then go to properties and redirect each sheet to the correct file/layout tab.
    3. import the last layout tab as a sheet and rename and number accordingly.

this doesn't work. when i try to import layouts that have been previously removed it says they are unavailable for import. Also, when i create new layout tabs, they do not show at all when trying to import them.

I have tried doing this while the drawing in question is open and closed and i have done a "resave all sheets".

    what am i doing wrong?

for one, SSM can handle mult layout files, but it's not recommended.

are you sure the layout isn't already reference by another SSM project?
Sometimes, i get lost in my own thoughts and need to ask directions to find my way back.

I'm positive these layouts are not referenced anywhere else.

I still can't get ssm to see brand new layout tabs. If i could, i could just temporarily point one or two sheets to the new tabs while i shuffle the others around.

um, silly question: did you save the drawing first before you tried to import?

sometimes it also helps to "exit" the SSM project (not just close the palette) and re-open to force a new file to appear.

may i ask, did you use paperspace long before SSM came out?
