    Default DEFPOINT Layer

I opened a drawing that I haven't worked on for a while and I wanted to change the viewport scale. My viewport is on the DEFPOINT layer and for some reason I am not able to select that layer at all, either in paper or model space. I checked my layer manager and it is not locked or frozen. I can change the color for that layer, but that's about it, I can't select any of it. Would anyone know what's going on with this layer?

Is layer 0 turned off/frozen or locked?

You may also consider placing viewports on another non-plotting layer, see here for further discussion.

    Cool Re: DEFPOINT Layer

i too am having the exact same problem, and i have checked all the obvious(lasyers are on or off, turning all layers on to see if becomes visible, trying to click on the viewport outline to check it's properties) but none have worked. i even just went past the drawing and on to the next and came back this morning to find it doing the same thing. at times if i regen or just go back to paperspace it will appear(the vport outline) but is not letting me click on it to check it's properties............please someone help .............

Can you post an example dwg file in which the problem occurs?

I am not sure why you cant select the defpoints layer but you may wish to approach this from a different perspective. If selection criteria is the layer contents try using the filter command:

Command: Filter, then in the dialogue box select LAYER from the 'select filter" and then the layer name under the button 'Select'. Add selected object and then Apply.

This will highlight as a selection set all entities on the selected layer and you should then be able to change or modify accordingly.

Let me know if this works for you.

You said you turned all the layers ON and still couldn't select the Defpoints layer. Is layer 0 (zero) THAWED also? The defpoints layer cannot be selected if layer 0 is not on and thawed. For some reason they are linked.

Just another reason why you shouldn't put things on Defpoints. How hard is it to create layer called v-port and turn off the plotable check box? This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Defpoints is ment for Dimsions points that don't plot, nothing else.

    Talking Re: DEFPOINT Layer

hey guys thanks for your response and sorry it took me so long to get back to your repost of my question work only allows so much time in the day and i dont like to be crusing the AUGI board all day, dont want to get it trouble ya know, but they are very helpful and thank you all for being so helpful. well the outcome, i actually got tired of messing with it and was going to recreate another viewport and just start fresh, but you know how those lil things irritate you and you just have to know why or how to overcome it next time or help out a fellow cad guy when he runs across the same problem, ok back to the problem and outcome.........well........you all being cad operators yourself im sure have experienced this problem in your years, im using 2007 just to let you know, where you cant seem to get a command to work or a simple string of commands dont seem to be working as it was an hour ago on the same drawing than you sinmply get too frustrated to even want to deal with it anymore and Autocad(for some strange reason) works perfectly fine as if it never had the problem and makes you look like an *** in the process. well that's what happened after trying to ignore the problem, but it kept eating at me, i went back to the drawing and cheked it all again and guess what? the viewport was there, able to grip it and worked just fine............go figure.......but as i said thank you all for your efforts in trying to help and guess you'll see me later when another question or problem i mean pops up ........thanks...............Joe

Maybe DEFPOINTS should be hidden from the layer manager unless EXPERT = 5.
