Angry Errors on Opening AutoCAD 2005 Help Files

    Hi ALL,

    I have 2005 Mechanical.

The AutoCAD 2005 help files worked fine without any problem until I came back from holiday.

(I have no problem with opening Mechanical Help files.)

In AutoCAD 2005 Help contents tab, under "AutoLISP,Visual LISP,and DXF" & "ActiveX Automation and VBA",
I now can not open all following sub-help files:
    "AutoLISP Reference",
    "AutoLISP Developer's Guide",
    "AutoLISP Tutorial"
    and "DXF Reference";
    "ActiveX and VBA Developer's Guide",
    "ActiveX and VBA Reference",
    "Sheet Set Objects Reference"
    and "Connectivity Automation Reference".

All error messages state "an error has occured in the script on this page. ... object doesn't support this property or method."

I have checked that help support path is correct under Files tab in Option:

Menu, Help, and Miscellaneous File Names
    - Help File
    - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acadm 2005\Help\acad161.chm

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Also, I can not load LISPs which were working fine. The error message says "ERROR: bad argument type: stringp nil; error: An error has occurred inside the *error* functionAutoCAD variable setting rejected: "OSMODE" nil".

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I have now reinstalled AutoCAD 2005 Mech. I can load my LISPs but the re-installation doesn't solve the HELP files opeing problem.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

    Ke

    Hi Ke,

Does the <product>.chm open and work correctly if you double-click on it in Windows Explorer? I don't have Mechanical, so I'm not sure what the exact file name would be.

Also, is the path to <drive>:\Program Files\<product>\help in your Support File Search Path in Options? And, in options on the files tab, under Help and Miscellaneous File Names/Help File, is the correct help file listed (this may not apply to 2005, I don't remember)?

Another thing to try is typing:

    regsvr32 c:\windows\system\hhctrl.ocx

at a dos prompt, then restarting the computer and see if that helps.

    Tim,

    Thanks for your help.

This problem seems to be an issue of AutoCAD 2005 plain product.

I have found the following files in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acadm 2005\Help
    1) acad_alr.chm
    is AutoLISP Reference
    2) acad_alg.chm
    is AutoLISP Developer's Guide
    3) acad_alt.chm
    is AutoLISP Tutorial
    ...

I can open them in Windows Explorer without any problem.

Yes, the help support path is correctly listed under "Menu, Help, and Miscellaneous File Names/Help File" in OPTIONS.

Could you please explain the reason to do this at dos prompt?

    Thanks again.

    Did you verify that

    <drive>:\Program Files\<product>\help

is it is in your support paths, also?

    error reads:
    autocad warning:
adobe PDF: this plotter configuration cannot be used for one of these reasons:the driver cannot be found, the device cannot be found, or the driver has a problem. The none plot device has been substituted.

Then when you select "OK" it brings up the plotter dialog menu.
    any advice?
