create a void od a Letter "A" in a hatch or solid box

This mightbe hard to explain correctly!!!
How can I create a fill or solid hatch box with a Letter, so that when I remove the letter it shows as a void in the box?

Express Tools explode text will replace the text with a pline boundary, use that and you ought to get there fairly readily.

Or, set the text to be Trucolor 255,255,255 and it will plot out as white, eg nothing at all. If you try it that way, use Lines Overwrite in your plot settings
