    Red face Unreconciled Layers

Why do I get, in some drawings but not in others, the "Unreconciled Layers" error when attempting to plot. I understane that it has something to do with xrefs, but does not happen in all files that have xrefs, and does happen in files that the xrefs have not been modified since last plotted.

One file in particular, is kicking my rearend everytime I attempt to plot. And everytime I do reconcile and plot, only to get the same error the next time I attempt to plot. I am not modifying layers in either the main file or the xrefs.

    Any thoughts?

It only happens if those XRefs have new layers which weren't there before (when you orriginally attached them). Or since the last time you reconciled the layers, which is a way of telling AutoCAD: "OK, I've seen the changes, made my modifications & now don't warn me again."

BTW, you can turn this (sometimes) annoying thing off totally by: open, Layer Properties Manager, click Settings, uncheck Evaluate new layers added to drawing. IMHO this should be the default in your templates and you should change most (if not all) your drawings to this setup. Until such time as the particular drawing is reasonably complete, you don't want this to bother you. After you've setup everything and "finished" working on the drawing, having it ready for issue, turn this back on. This way you're warned at a future date if anything's changed from other xreffed layers since the last issue.

    Explore LAYERNOTIFY and LAYEREVAL.

I've had that message pop up too whenever referencing drawings to my project. All I do is go into the layer properties manager and isolate the unreferenced layers, highlight them, right-click and select reconcile layers. I hope this will be helpful.
