    Default Curved Concrete Beams

I am trying to make a concrete peremiter beam work along a 2002'-0" radius over a distance of about 330'-0" it would be great if it could be a single beam, but the design requires that it be segmented - into approx. 30' sections between columns. however, when I use the pick tool (along a segmented ref plane from center to center of concrete columns) the beam that is created shoots past the center point of the concrete column sometime by hundreds of feet.

The bad thing is I kow we have better beam tools coming in the 09' release, but this project will never be upgraded.

as a side note: I need no anilitical information from the model and was hoping someone would have answer other than creating the beam as a wall or some such.

Thanks in advance for any help

have you tried using a create in place concrete beam? that would be the easy way to go.

Do you mean as a solid form solid sweep along the segments?

The issue with in place solutions for me is you can't use the reinforcement tools with them. If you need to place rebar, it seems you have to make a beam family. Using the complex/truss template as opposed to the beam template for the familiy seemed to fix alot of those issues for me when doing beams at funny angles/shapes.

Will the arc be the same for all beams (30' right?)? If so you could create a beam family.
If not make the same family parametric

I wish that was the case; there are various lengths betwen columns that also vary from floor to floor. Five Floors.

We just finished 6 story building where one side had two sifferent angles with a curved segment connecting the two angled sides. Once the grid lines were in, we created in place beam families using solid sweeps and were able to pick the grid line as our 2D path for the sweep. The 2D path line was always longer than what we wanted but all we did was trim it to the centerline of the column. As someone stated in an earlier post, it doesn't make for good placement of reinforcement but if your not doing that anyway...

You may not get the reinforcement tools on the options bar, but you should be able to place reinforcement from the design bar.

Or are you talking about the RoboBat extensions?
