Default Modify rectangular beveled tap fitting?

Can anyone help me either modify or create a rectangular beveled tap fitting so that the beveled length changes with the size of the duct? The OTB fitting maintains a 4.5" bevel length regardless of the duct size. SMACNA standards is (duct width)/4 with a 4" minimum. I've looked in the catalog, but I don't know what all the equations are and I tried the parametric part wizard but I don't know my way around it.

    dmastro,

You will probably want to copy the existing tap and rename it to be a new one, then modify it. You will be looking to change the value of the formula for that length from a constant value (4.5) to some formula using the duct size. I will create a quick video and post back shortly...

In the mean time, this post may be helpful for you:

Well, I wasn't quite able to modify it the way I wanted to (for some reason it won't let me change the L2 to a "Calculation", so I made it a "List" instead.

    Here are the steps:
    1. Menu > CAD Manager > Content Editing > Content Builder
    2. Change “Part Catalog” to “Duct”, go to Rectangular > Takeoffs > Rectangular Duct Beveled Tap US Imperial, click on “Modify Part Size” button
    3. Click on “Save Part Family As”, change “Name” and “Description”, click “Ok”
    4. Right-click on “Size Parameters” and click “Edit Configuration”
    5. Change the Data Storage type for “L2” from “Constant” to “List”
    6. Change the Visible value for “L2” from “False” to “True”
    7. Change to the “Values” tab and click on the value for L2, click on the “Edit” button
    8. Add All the different lengths that you want to use (keep in mind that here is an additional 1.5” added for the ends), click “Ok”, click “Ok”
    9. Click “Save Part Family”, click on the close button
    10. And of course, don’t forget to Buy Buzz a Beer: http://www.geniusoftllc.com/beer4buzz
And here is a video showing how to do it:

I figured out a way to make L2 a calculation - you have to edit via xml...

If you want to give it a shot open the file (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ACD-MEP 2008\enu\Aecb Catalogs\US Imperial\Duct\Rectangular\Takeoffs\Rectangular Beveled Tap.xml) and change ColumnConst to ColumnCalc and then put in the formula you want.

    Have fun!
