The legth parameter in beams seems to be one of the hardcoded ones yet when placed into a project file it's not available for scheduling. Length is not available for creating tags either.
How can I get my beam lengths displayed on drawings in tags?

Batman,
1.Create a shared parameter called "Tag Length".
2.Modify the beam family to include this new shared parameter (instance) and make its value equal to the hard coded length.
3.Duplicate an existing framing tag family and add the new shared parameter. You could leave the "Type Name" parameter justified right and add the new "tag Length" parameter to the right of it, but make its justification Left. This will allow to keep the alignment correct as beam sizes change

Was hoping that it was even simpler than that , thanks.
Dan:
To follow up on your solution for a beam tag with the length (BTW, your post was the only one I could find on this question on the Web)-
I would like the final beam length in the tag to match the "Cut Length" in the project. I was able to make your solution work, but it reports the overall beam length. I'm not sure how to get the shared parameter to report a length that is actually created by the conditions in the drawing itself (or if that's even possible). You talk about the "hard-coded" length of the beam - is that always from the column CL to CL, or can I somehow use the "Cut Length"? Thanks - hope you see this as I am referring to an older post.

I know it's an old one, but I have the same problem... trying to tag "cut length" parameter
Anyone achieved it?
In 2011 you can select the paramater and check the "reporting Parameter" box. It should show up in a schedule.

Reporting parameter rules!!!!
I still don't understand why a "must" parameter, like cut length (=real beam lenght), is so difficult to tag (and why few people ask about it at rst forum)
