    Question Managing a Library of Typical Details

    I recently set up a standard Template for my projects to get the details to look the same as I am usd to or to my liking. I also have created different folders and subfolders for Typ. details that I use very often. Reading through help on the computer in Revits help menu and in Chapter 1 in Revit Structure 2008 I have figured out how to load these typical details into projects or my project template as a family, which is suggested in the book, problem is I can't get the notes that I had saved in the detail to load in the projects or template. All I get is the details with out notes or dimensions. I would like to find out what I am doing wrong, what option I have turned off or not set correctly, or if I am going about it the wrong way totally.... How do I get my notes and dim's to show up in the loaded family of a detail in the project I am working in? No notes and no dim's show up, just the detail itself, what am I doing wrong?

    Is it just basic 2D details you are trying to import?

    If it is, we do it a bit differently, create a new project and place it in your desired central location, within that project create drafting views for all your standard details.

    Then start a new project (or open up an old project you want to import standard details too) then go to :

    file=>insert from file=>views

    From here locate your stanard project file with all your drafting views contained within it. A pop up will show you all your drafting views that you can import, just tick what one's you want. The detail will come in with text and dimensions. You can do the exact same thing with all your projects, you may have a one off detail you want to import from another project, just use the same philosophy as above.

    Hope this is of some help.

    I agree with Allan and is the method I use as well.
