Default VM Ware vs Dedicated Servers

We're getting ready to implement a well know Facilities Management application that incorporates CAD drawings for users to be able view floor plans as they change, visual queries, etc.

Party line at my company is they are trying to move as many applications/systems to VMWare for efficiency. Vendor is recommending dedicated servers.

We have feedback from many of the FM system user groups that VMWare just will not work with CAD or that they are having multiple issues due to latency.

So, does anyone have any experience with Cad on VMWare either good or bad?

Do your virtual machines recognise the abilities of your graphics cards?
If not, you will lose a lot of performance.

Any kind of intermediary layer will make the execution slower... Plus we have seen strange behaviors (for other products and not for CAD) when running a product through VMWare...

I guess using VM ware will slow down execution. Performance will be hampered for sure. If its possible go for dedicated servers.

We are currently testing VM Ware for our company. The major hang up for us is with graphics on 3D software. Our use with AutoCAD seems to be okay, but again, we are not doing 3D in AutoCAD. I would suggest you ask your Vendor to see if there is a a way to test the system.

If we cannot get the VM Ware to work properly, we may try a hybrid system. We are working with an IT firm to try different things.
