Default Civil 3d - Windes import question

    Hi,

My company is contemplating migrating from PDS to Civil 3d. I have two questions :

    1) Is there to be improved Windes connectivity on Civil 3d 2009? Or will it be part of the 'country file'?

    2) With Civil 3d 2008 I gather there are problems with the Windes toolbox functions. I can see a 'rename' pipes facility and a 'export' facility but no 'import' function as shown in this blog : http://civilcommunity.autodesk.com/b...blogpost/9145/.

Windes was not installed on the PC which had the trial of Civil 3d 2008 that was being used, would it have to be for the import function to show?

    Thanks in advance.

    SK

I am not familiar with Windes. I did a quick Internet search and found that it is drainage software widely used in the UK.

As with any drainage software you will need to use LandXML to import and export between Civil 3D and the drainage software. According to their website Windes does support LandXML.

The UK and Ireland specific 'country file' for Civil 3D 8 has a pipe conversion and export tool for Windes but these are buggy and it appears that you would be better served using the command line for both. I can't find the import tool shown in your link either.

If you want to know what the situation is with 2009 I would suggest maybe contacting Autodesk directly as the question might be a bit too 'UK-specific' for anyone to know the answer here.

This might a little off topic but do not upgrade to Civil 3D 2009 yet. I recently upgraded and I am having all kind of issues. Stay with Civil 3DE 2008 if you can for now. 2009 looks great and has some great new functions but has a ton of bugs that first need to be worked out by AutoDesk.

Could you be a little more specific? What bugs have you encountered?
We have been using 2009 and so far have found it to be more stable than 2008.
