    Default Family and Masking Region

I am trying to create family base on ‘line base family’ to be able to have drawing resemble pipe that cut trough a wall in plan view, the lines for the family working wall but the masking region that I use for masking the part of the wall that the pipe pas through dose not mask anything and the pipe look as if it is under the wall.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

Does the masking region work, if you push this button... see attached.

No, that won't work. Since his/her family is a model family (generic model line based) and he/she is using 2D lines and a mask region, he/she has to create an invisible model line, looking in elevation, that goes from Reference level up to somewhere higher than the cut plane in the project. Just make it 6'-0" high for instance. Otherwise, the mask region won't mask the wall.

    I hope it helps,

Thumbs down Re: Family and Masking Region

oh man this really sucks when trying to get this type of family to show up thru a linked model(structural) in an MEP view. the filled region DC is located at basement and the invisible line is set to +46' so that it shows on every plan that has a cut plane passing thru. its all fine in a single model. but when you link it in to another one, the display of it is very wonky to say the least.

only way we can get it to show up (part time) is to switch the view to structural, switch model display to do not display, then switch it back to normal, then switch the discipline back to mechanical. and guess what happens when you reload the link, or start a new local....thats right...blammo.

i think the usefulness that some get out of this needs to be revisited. PITA.

cant a generic model just be built with a material set for where it is cut?

you can create a view template from the view and apply to subsequent views....but ugh...
