    Default Nested Shared Instance Parameters?

I have a family which has shared subfamilies with shared instance parameters. In the project file, when i schedule the family, the parameters show up but cannot be edited. When I go to the element properties of the shared subfamily within the project file, the parameter is there but is grayed out. It is, however, editable when I open the host family for editing. Is this normal?

Yes, since you have instance parameters in a nested family. It might work if you created the same instance parameters in the host family, and then link the nested families instance parameters to those you created in the host family. Otherwise, the nesting of the items will usually cause them to be non-editable in a schedule.

We just ran into this problem too and I think I have a solution. Like you I was putting shared parameters into my nested families thinking that they would be instance based once inserted into a project which they are not.

What I found works instead is to add those parameters which should be instance based for all doors as Project Parameters instead of Shared Parameters. I'm redoing our door schedule and doors so that it will use the correct parameters and it seems to be working fine.

    hope that helps.
