    Exclamation Long file save times

I am having very little luck troubleshooting an issue we are experiencing with acutocad 2008. For some time now, many of our drawings take an unusually long time to save/autosave. Sometimes 10 minutes or more!

So far, the only clue I have found is that acad write a tremendous amount of data to one of the temp files during the save process. For example, an 8mb drawing, when saved, creates a undxxxx.ac$ file about 690-730mb in size.

The drawing files are stored on our file server and the temp files are stored locally.

    Has anyone encountered this before?

    What is in these drawings?
What about if you start with a new (no-template) blank drawing? Does it save OK?

We have not had any issues with new or smaller les used files. Just the ones being used frequently by multiple users. The data within the files is mostly 2d objects, with some 3d linework and points.

try doing a -PURGE R at the Command prompt, and see how many Regapps have accumulated in one of the slow drawings.

...and check for excessive scale list entries also.

Well, I have to admit, I was not shocked to find 456 purgeable regapps. After I got rid of them my save time went down to 30sec. Unfortunately though, when I reopened the drawing they were back again.

As far as the scale lists go, I installed the scale list cleanup tool, but it locked up when I ran it.

Thanks for the help so far!

Ok, purged the regapps out of the xref dwg files also. Now they are all clean. However, the quick save time must have been a fluke somehow.

Now one of the undxxxxx.ac$ files only grows to 531mb instead of 700+ during the save operation.

ISAVEPERCENT ? set that to 0 (zero) to turn off incremental saving. that's one thing that will cause file sizes to bloat.

In 2006 and up, you can also just use the ._FILTERS command to delete named layer filters.
