I created this door family including a nested transom. Flexes fine and looks fine in the family file, but when I insert it into a project file, the window does not "cut" the wall.
Any thoughts? File attached.

Hope I am not stating the obvious for you here, but have you checked the phase settings? if you are using phases this will happen. Also if you insert into a curved wall and have used a void to cut the opening as opposed to an "opening" this will cause the walls not to cut.
any help??
No, its not phases. I inserted the family in a project and got the same result as 4christo4. (See attached )
I tried editing the opening cut, locking its top to the transome, but that then cuts the nested family and Revit wants to delete it.
Can you post the transome family ? Maybe thats the problem.

Martin, you're onto something with the voids vs. opening cuts. I typically make my windows with a void instead of an opening cut--to allow for the addition of a custom sill or lintel later on that will involve both a void and a solid.
So... the transom window is cutting with a void and the door is cutting with an opening cut. That must be the problem.
Any easy workarounds? Or do I have to recreate one of the families involved to match the others "cutter"?
This may be out in left field, but have you tried "nesting" the transom into the door family? I'm assuming you don't need a custom sill in this case.
Ahhhh I got it....Originally Posted by 4christo4
Your nested family will cut with voids only once, ie it will cut in the family you insert it into. If you place the family into a model, nested voids will not cut, its like they have used up their power to cut in the family. You have to go right back to the family that is nested, remove the void cutting altogether. Then make the void cut in the family you are going to place in the model... I hope that makes sense!!
I had the same problem inserting a new window which was to be placed partly on a new wall, and partly on an existing wall. If I placed it on the new, the existing would not cut, and if I placed it on existing the new wall would not cut.
Martin,
Your thought about removing the void/opening from the nested family works, but it seems to me that this defeats the purpose of nested families to create compound window assemblies, doors/transoms, etc., as I would then have to make a new version of my window family that doesn't have a void or opening in it.
IMHO the voids or openings should cut both the "master" family wall and the ultimate "project" wall.
Am I nuts?
I agree, it is a pain in the neck, I am hoping for a completely new family type next release for components that are going to be nested, hopefully this will be fixed too.Originally Posted by 4christo4
"am I nuts?" - I think that depends how long you have been creating families with Revit
