Cool Mouse wheel zooms only when holding "ctrl" key

I have been referred to this thread and none of these suggestions help.

    http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=16802

I need further assistance. The correct driver is installed and all system variables are set correctly. All the variables that I could look up in the help file anyways. The problem is that the mouse wheel does not pan or zoom, but instead scrolls the screen up and down. The strange thing is that it zooms when you hold down the "CTRL" key. Does anyone have anymore suggestions?

    Thanks

Let me guess ... it's a Logitec mouse and you've installed their windows driver, right?

Do yourself a favour and uninstall their driver. Then restart the PC, let windows "think" it's a normal MS Mouse. You should now have it working without any hassles.

You're going to loose some functionality like button assignments for other windows apps, but you either live with the one or the other.

I've always used Logitech and have never had any issues. This may have already been stated in the thread you posted, but I'll say it again jUSt in case. I'm too lazy to read all the posts listed.....
anyway, go to your mouse properties and set your middle button to "middle button". Then make sure mbuttonpan is set to 1 in acad.

    That's always worked for me.

    It's not a logitech, it's a dell, maybe that's the problem ; )
And yes, mbuttonpan is set to 1...

We figured it out. For some unexplained reason, the dell driver that was installed was over riding the AutoCAD mouse functionality and causing unexpected behaivor. Once the driver was removed, XP's mouse driver took over and the problem was solved. Weird that out of 150 people that has that mouse driver installed that it only happened to malfunction on one person.......doo doo doo doo

In that case open the Windows Control Panel and see if you can assign different actions to the mouse. If so then follow the same instructions as dzatto's explained - assign the middle button to be the action of middle button. You may also have a a different assignment for the wheel. I know that the Logitec allows you to choose if it should scroll / zoom. Maybe the same applies for your Dell - I've never used a Dell before, always either a MS, Genius, or Logitec.

Sorry, just noticed you were typing - so the uninstall works the same as when I used a Logitec.

That's weird, I use nothing but Dell at work and have never had that problem. Go figure....

I had to turn the scrollbars off in the options.

I just got a new Dell T5400 w/ XP, and the Dell mouse that came with it did the same thing. I put an old Microsoft mouse on it, and everything works fine. It was very irritating that first day....using the zoom window or zoom dynamic command like we had to way back when to will drive you crazy lol
