Default Plan View Without Zooming All

We're working on a large drawing, with a lot of angled UCS. When I changed to another UCS and set to plan view, it normally zooms out all drawing objects and I don't like that. Is there a way just to rotate the current view to a specific UCS thus avoiding the unnecessary zooming out and finding the part where I'm working?

I usually save a series views based on the individual UCS's.

Set Ucsfollow=0 and/or lock the viewport.

I think it is the UCSFOLLOW variable. Locking the viewport would not allow rotating the view to the UCS via the PLAN command.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.

Thanks for the reply but I am aware of the UCSFOLLOW variable and what it does is set to Plan View using the current UCS but still zooming all objects or extents which exactly what I want to avoid since we are dealing with a large drawing that takes a lot of time to regenerate. By the way I'm working in model space so locking the viewport is not an option. I think this can be done with lisp or vba. We just have to take the target and zoom value of the view, then make another view using these values but from a different source and line of sight derived from the current UCS. I just don't have the time to research for it but I will post asap if I found a solution for this.

Maybe the Express tools' Explan is what you're after?

I believe using the viewcube in AutoCAD 2009 works exactly as you require.

Thats it. Thanks. I will try this on the large drawing tomorrow. I haven't tried the viewcube in AutoCAD 2009 but I will look into it. Thanks.
