    Default Consultant Drawings

Ok, I got another one! I'm full of 'em today, huh?

How are you guys handling sheet lists and drawings from consultants? I'm thinking of going to placing the sheet list from the SSM but I need to know what to do about the other sheets that come from our consultants so the list is complete. What are you guys doing here?

I add a new sheet to the SSM list - name the file "Consultant-Drawing-Placeholder.DWG". Then add as many paperspace layouts as you have consultant files. Import all of the layouts to the SSM, rename/renumber them per your consultant list. Wa-la. Update your Sheet Index, your done.

Yea, that's what I tried on the last big job. What a headache that turned into. I think it works fine as long as you don't have too big a drawing set. I was dealing with roughly 50 consultant sheets and the "consultant placeholder" file just had way too many layouts to really keep track of efficiently. Another issue I had was the phone calls from our consultants when I e-transmitted the set to someone. They just didn't understand what this "consultant placeholder" drawing was for. It's bad enough I deal with PMs who look in my folders and don't understand what they are looking at, but when my consultants are calling me with stupid questions like that, you really want to start drinking.

I might try it again, but if I do I will use a separate "consultant placeholder" file for each consultant.
