    Post Symbol Manager

LDD#3 Adding custom symbols to Symbol Manager dialog box. Everything works except for the fact that I can not see the visual in the dialog box. Any help would be appreciated.

    John,

I think the issue is in item twelve of the help file for symbol manager

    organization and settings later.

Select the Create Slides check box if you want the program to create slides for symbol drawings as they are added to a symbol set, and then select one of the following:
All: To create slides for all of the files.
New Only: To create slides for only the new files.
NOTE For information about creating slides, see Making a Slide.

Select the Create Slide Library check box if you want to create a slide library for the symbol slides, and then select the filename and path for the slide library by doing the following:
Type the filename and path in the edit box.
Click File and locate the path.
Click OK to import the symbols to the symbol set

The above is from Land 2004

The below is from Land 3

To add a symbol to a palette

From the Utilities menu, choose Symbol Manager.
In the Symbol Manager, click Add.
The Add Symbol dialog box is displayed.

Type the name of the new symbol in the Symbol Name edit box.
To change the symbol path, select a new path from the Symbol Path scroll box.
If you want to add a new path key, click the button. For more information, see Adding a Path Key.
To specify the icon for the symbol, do one of the following:
Type a name in the Slide edit box.
NOTE To specify a slide library, type the name of the slide image for the symbol in parentheses after the slide library name.

Click Slide to select a slide or slide library.
NOTE Slide files must exist in the same folder as the symbol drawing file.

To specify the drawing file for the symbol, do the following:

Sounds like you need to make the slides...
    Be your Best,

If you are going to remain on LDT 3 I hope Mike's advise helped you.

If you will be upgrading to LDT 2004 or 2005 anytime soon I would not recommend spending a lot of time setting up the symbol manager. I would recommend waiting and using the tool palettes in the newer versions.

They are much easier to setup, especially if they will be used across a network for several employees. They can also be used in vanilla AutoCAD and Map, where the symbol manager is only available when using LDT.

Note: If you upgrade to 2004 you need to install the tool palette extension. This extension is included in the 2005 install.
