Default The Nosing dotted line reveal in the Stair case

    Hi All,

I am very happy to be part of this great and helpful community.
I trying to switch to Revit from Autocad Architecture, and on the way I am finding some issues and workarounds.
But I found one problem is the representation of the staircase.
i come from an area where we present the staircase nosing in the drawings with a continuous line followed by a dotted line to differentiate between the concrete line (the dotted one) and the nosing finish line (the continuous one).
I know I can draw the lines that i need manually after I design the stair, but is there a way included in the stair command that can help me reveal this line, taking into consideration that it is present in the AutoCAD Architecture since forever.
Also is there a way to automatically number the steps in the stair command?
If both arenot in the current release then I wish they would be added to the wishlist

    Best regards and thanks

    Hey there,
    Welcome to Revit!

    To answer your questions.....

    1. To get the dashed line you want, simply change your view to a "wireframe" view, then use the line work tool (the fountain pen) selected to a dashed line of your choosing, and select all of the lines you wish to show dashed. When done, change the view back to "hidden line" and voila! This technique works well for cabinetry below a counter, roof overhangs (with a temporary underlay of the roof plan) and other similar types of items.

    2. I have never seen your convention for numbering stairs; however, there is a stair tag which has: 19 Risers, 20 Treads etc. along with the up or down arrow and labels for "up" and "down".

Hope this helped, and good luck!
    Steve

    Hi,

Try using the attached family for adding step numbers to your straight stair.
    I hope it helps.

thank you very much for your help.
Sorry for not accessing my account for so long.
I tried the advice for changing the view to wireframe, but still all what I could see is a single line representation for the stair.
The hidden line for the riser is not shown.

and thanks for the stairs nubmering family

Not much... What I did to address this issue was to create my own symbol family and I simply place it over the stairs in lieu of the default arrows (I turn them off in a view).

Not sure if it's in previous versions of Revit but if you're using 2014 you can find a stair numbering tool that automatically adds stair numbers to a run of stairs. In your menu bar go to Annotate/Tag/Tread Number. If the look is not what you want I'm assuming you can edit this family tag and customize it??
