xref linetypes not loading right

We are using a linetype called FENC1 which is a simple ----x----x---
*FENC1,----X-----X-----X-----X-----X-----X----
A,.60,-.06,[FENC,FENC.SHX,S=.15],-.06

The problem we are having is when the survey is referenced into the plot sheet the linetype is messed up and displays as continuous line with huge U shape in it. If I go and change the layer linetype to something other, reload or reattach the xref, change back to FENC1, the linetype is normal again. Sounds like a fix, but that is for each plot sheet, and each time the plot sheet is opened. I have done searches for something like this and I can't find a fix.

We have written a lsp to reload the company .lin file, which would be ok if the line was in the plot sheet, but that doesn't reload the reference drawing line types. Does anyone have a suggestion on a fix or a work around?

Perhaps this might be somewhere deep in this forum, but I can't seem to find related posts.

Have you considered using a windows standard font, as opposed to your custom SHX file?
Is demand loading turned on for your Xrefs, from the options menu?
Is the PSLTSCALE set to 0 or 1 in the plot sheet?
Do you load the LIN file from a network location or locally to the pc?
