I'm trying to export/import my Revit model into Etabs and/or SAP2000 (for the first time) and nothing happens when I import the ifc file into either of the two programs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would use the direct link options for etabs, while not perfect it if 100 times better then using IFC, you can get this from the etabs website as a download.
as for SAP you could try CIS/2 export or direct via excel or database, but I imagine some API work would have to done on the Revit end to clean this up.
