    Talking Reference Line

    Can I add a reference line to a basic wall i.e. 8" cmu + 2" air + 4" brick.
I want to put that reference line in the center of my 8" cmu.
any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

What to you want to achieve? If you make the CMU the "core" of your wall structure it will have its center as a reference to, let's say, add a dimension to it...

    Cool Re: Reference Line

If my wall is just cmu yes, the centerline will be the middle of the cmu thickness, but when you have a cmu wall plus brick veneer, the center line is not the center of the cmu core the center line is the "middle" of the overall wall. If i'm bearing a joist to cmu core it will not place the end of the joist to the center of the core it will place to the center of the total wall thickness.
I've attached a picture of what I am trying to accomplish.

Walls do support center of wall and center of core for placement and dimensioning. but as you've noted, the structure doesn't respect the structural core. Youll have to use the end offset to pull the joist back to the CMU.
