Default Turning Vanes and Hatch Up and Downs

Is there a way to turn on turning vanes on rectangular duct elbows and hatches that determine which duct goes up and down???

Would it have to be done in the family??

I haven't been able to work out how to add turning vanes to the square bend family (if anyone has, then be a hero and post an example).

The way I've been showing them is using a single turning vane as part of a repeating detail. Obviously, if you move the bend, the turning vanes stay where they are, so they're best added when the model is pretty much complete, but it looks OK when you plot it.

It's in my "to do list" for our office....I hope that if someone made it they would share it....at least, sharing is how revit progressed in the architectural community...hint, hint

When I would find time, I was going to make it a Tag, so that when the bend moves, the veins move as well....

Here is my attempt at a mitered elbow with turning vanes. Keep in mind I'm an electrical guy by nature

    Hope this is useful.

You can modify the Family to include that graphic if you'd like. As an FYI, we are investigating updating our Families to include Vanes for our upcoming Content Extension.

As for the Hatch, can you please provide a use case for this? Are you looking for Rise/Drop symbols or is there something else Could you upload a screen grab of how this looks in an AutoCAD file?

    Thanks,
    Kyle B

Cool, I can wait for The Content Extension.. by the way when will that be??

Yes it's for a rise/drop symbol... does it need to be in the symbol category?? or can it be associated to the family with an option to turn it on or off...

    Thanks!

I was hoping that the vanes would array as the bend changed size, but it's a step in the right direction. Rather than try to solve that problem I guess I can wait for the Content extension (which will also naturally include oval ductwork, cable trays, conduit, fire dampers, large centrif and axial fans etc etc).

Well done DMB. Not bad for a sparky...

No public release date, but we're targeting sometime in the next couple months.

Rise/Drop symbols are automatically placed on Ductwork rises and drops, the ductwork just needs to be on a System. This is because the application is set up to do Rise/Drop symbols according to the System Type.

    Cheers,
    Kyle B

We worked on this quite a bit. See the attached files to learn how we did it.
