If you have a second monitor and have it rotated as i do. don't install microsoft sp3 yet. it disables your ability to rotate the second monitor. i checked around on the net and there are others with different video cards than i have that ran into the same problem until they uninstalled SP3. Microsoft just wasted 2 good hours of work time trying to figure out what the problem was. now i'm uninstalling and crossing my fingers.

Yeah, I ran into this problem when SP3 was first released...wasted about the same amount of time trying to figure it out. Uninstalling SP3 / reverting back to SP2 worked fine.

If using ATI, I did find this...but I am not about to try it, since it's the only post I found saying it allegedly works.

    agreed!
thanks for showing me that. i just uninstalled sp3 and all is back to normal. sounds like there is a little passing the buck around. microsoft screws up and everybody else has to solve the problem.

So get this... If you don't install MS XP SP3 microsoft will break it up into a bunch of smaller updates and you won't know which one not to install. however, if you install the latest update from ATI. it will fix the problem. it takes a little time for the driver programers to catch up.. but they did, so go ahead and install SP3 just make sure you update your video drivers.

You need to turn off Automatic Updates (there's other reasons for this as well see below). So that MS doesn't install the HotFix portions of SP3. I've got mine turned off because I've found in the past that it sometimes installs HotFixes out of order (which can corrupt Windows).

BTW, does anyone know if a similar fix works for NVidia Quaddro cards?

i went on the web and there are others with your vcard having the same problem. the only thing i can recomend is to update your drivers. i'm sure NVidia knows of the problem and is working on it or has already fixed it.
