    Default Blocks Changing Names

    Allright, here's the problem.

I have created a few blocks that are just lovely and work great when inserted. BUT, after I close the file and go to open it again, all the grips are gone, AND..... Autocad has decided to rename it something useful like "*U70" instead of the original name of "Mech- Exhaust Fan."

    Anyone have any ideas?

Are they Dynamic Blocks that are getting exploded?

Probably not even being exploded. We are certainly talking about dynamic blocks since the OP mentions "grips". Amandas, dynamic blocks must have a uniform scale factor to display the grips.

I am going to have to say NO to both of your responses. Please have a look at the Images that I have attached.

"Smart Block" is how the block is supposed to act. And does act when inserted.
"Stupid Block" is how the block acts after I close the file and open it again.

Well Huh? I have no idea. Something seems to be happening to it after you insert it and close out.
Are you saving (or exporting) down to a lower release of AutoCAD?

What's your default value for "saveas"?

Well, I have tried changing our save as settings to save as AutoCAD 2007 which is the highest option that it gives us. But still, it converts the block names and everything to stupid blocks.

Another discovery we have had, is not only are they stupid blocks, but they now, cannot be exploded, and when you try to edit them they do not exist! Isn't that neat?

    Someone please help!

Yea, that "saveas" down to a lower release was just a guess, I tested it after wards and couldn't make a Dynamic Block "stupid". (ie: it didn't re-create your problem).
Sorry to send you down that road.

I wish I could help you, maybe someone else out there has better info.

btw: "stupid blocks" cracks me up (wicked funny expression)

You must have some code running that is harming your drawings upon save. This is not the behavior in AutoCAD out of the box.

Try loading an OOTB profile and then insert your dynamic block and save a test drawing.

Sorry, I may be an idiot, but......

    What is an OOTB profile?
