    Default Specialty Equipment family

I have a some specialty equipment families that show up in plan even when they are above the cutplane. I have a work around in the family using various visibility controls but it seems to me that I shouldn't have to McGyver it. If the object is above the cut plane we ought not to see it. Anyone have experience with this?

If anything in the family intersects the cut plane, it will show the family because specialty equipment isn't cuttable. Do you have any reference planes or symbolic linework that extends far from your actual equipment?
