Default Void Form for Coffered Ceiling/Slabs

I've built a coffered shape to create a coffered (i.e. two-way waffle) ceiling/slab system It works fine as a Sweep Void component- however, I'm having one minor issue with it.

When I bring the component into a model that has a 12" thick slab, it voids out the slab properly- until I change the slab/floor thickness. When I do that the void simply will NOT travel down to the bottom of the slab. I've aligned the bottom of the void to the bottom of the Floor1 in the FloorHosted family- am I missing something here? Is there some other way I should tell the Void to always connect to the bottom of the floor/slab?

Thanks, I'm new to this and appreciate the help and everyone's experience.

And you have aligned AND locked, isn't it?

Yes, I aligned it with the Align tool to the bottom of the Floor1 in the family editor and locked it.

Works GREAT so long as the floor is also 12" deep in the project, but if I adjust the floor depth via Element Properites, or use a different thickness to a new floor, the Void Components come in at the 12" depth from the original Floor1 in the family.

When editing your family, go to an elevation view, so you can see the bottom of the floor. Create a reference plane anywhere below the floor, align and lock it to the bottom of the floor. Select the reference plane and go to its properties. Give a name to it. When creating the void, use the named reference plane as work plane to host the void. Any dimensions to the void should be taken from this reference plane as well.

Doing this should make your void follow the bottom of the floor, even if it change thickness in the project.

It did! Thanks so much Andre.

Now, is there any way to get the floor volume to recognize the fact that a void has removed some of it's volume? It doesn't appear that the coffer voids actually remove any volume from the slabs.

see Steve Stafford's blog on this subject: www.revitoped.com

He confirms the volume does not get subtracted from the floor, unless the void cuts both top and bottim surfaces of the floor.
