    Default Network License manager problems

This morning several people were un-able to obtain a network licence of Acad or Revit (we are on Revit Series). I went to the license server and performed a status inquiry. It showed that I had several licenses checked out at the same time but I did not have the software open. I went my station to see if I had borrowed a license and not returned is (I have a laptop). I opened both ACAD and Revit and did not have any borrowed licenses. So whats the deal? Below is a part of the status report. What does the 'Linger 289620' mean?

    JeffW Jeff-W_LT Jeff-W_LT (v1.000) (tecton-xcopy/27000 101), start Mon 9/15 10:12 (linger: 896040)

Linger is a borrowed license. I've seen this happen on occasion. It is possible to return the borrowed licenses from the client machine.

You need to copy the LMUtil.exe from the license server to your client computer.
Open a DOS command prompt to the .exe location.
    C:\Temp> lmutil lmborrow -status

This lists the borrowed licenses. Note the feature name(s).
Return the license to the server with the following, where <server> is replaced by your actual server name and <feature name> is replaced by the feature name you noted above. This also assumes that the license server's port is the default 27000.
    C:\Temp> lmutil lmborrow -return -c 27000@<server> <feature name>

If the command is successful, all you get at the command prompt is:
    lmutil - Copyright (c) ... <blah, blah, blah>

I ran that utility with no luck. I tried that command string with every feature name in the license file and every time I got back a message saying 'no licenses borrowed' or something along those lines

You cannot use the feature name in the license file. Use the feature name as found on the client station. You should be running all this on the client, not the server.

I am running this on the clinet station. I guess I am confissed about the feature name. What I did was look at the license file for the feature names (ex 54700REVITS_2008_of) and typed that name into the command string in the client computer.

where can I find the feature name on the client station?

So you run the status query on your laptop, and it shows licenses, yet you cannot return them? According to the server, it looks like you are going to be holding those licenses for the next 3 days.

What does the status query on the laptop return?

I have only run the status inquiry on the server, not my laptop. How do I run it on the laptop? Do I need to install lmtools ?

Done.....when I run it and perform a status inquiry I get the same exact info as if I run a status inquiry at the server.
