Default Civil3D Points from Map Object Data?

I have a CAD file of AutoCAD points that have descriptions added via Map Object Data. I know it is possible to convert AutoCAD points to Civil3D Points, but is it possible to convert them and have Civil3D assign point numbers and/or descriptions to the points based on the descriptions in the Map object data?

    If so, how?

    Thanks!

I think you can use attribute extract (ATTEXT) to write the points with object data out to a CSV file, then import that as points. Should be a more direct way, but I haven't found it yet.

Using Map 3D query functions, you can extract X,Y and object data to a comma delimeted file. Then use Civil 3D point import functions. Civil 3D will assign point numbers.

This works however if you have a lot of Map Object Data in the table you need to select each field, you also have to make sure you select the X1, Y1, and Z1 properties of the points. An easier way may be to export to shp format taking the X1,Y1, & Z1 properties. Then open Excel and import the dbf file that is created in the shp export, delete the first row that contain the field headings if needed than save the excel file to CVS format and use the point import in C3D.

The Data Extraction in the newer version does not extract Map data. (that I know of)

That is a great suggestion, and more than likely, if you already have that object data, you probably started with importing a shape file, so you might even be able to skip the export step depending on what was included with the original .DBF file.
