Default making a generic in place family model....

i seem to be given the option to draw the path, but not the profile (it is greyed out).....i went and loaded the profile i needed and was able to select it from the pull down and it worked.....but i've always set up planes to draw on and have drawn my profiles as needed....don't understan why the sketch profile option is greyed out

In Revit 2009 the option to sketch the profile is called Edit and is found just beside where the loaded profiles are, in the Options bar.
Is this the one that's greyed out?
