Default Pipe Display in Profile and in Cross Sections

First I am having problems with ellipses in the profile (please see attachment).

Second I am having problems with ellipses in the cross sections, where the pipe is parallel to the cross section (please see attachment). I would like to make the pipes look like pipes shown in the profile minus the ellipses.

Third I would like to make the pipes clean-up at the structures. We all know that the pipes will not continue to the center of the structure, but stop at the inside wall. Any suggestions on the above issues will be greatly appreciated.

I have not had the issues you describe. If your pipes are connected to the structure they do clean up. The pipe is shown as it would be seen in that profile/section.

Cool Re: Pipe Display in Profile and in Cross Sections

The only way I've found to show pipe crossing ellipses inside structures is to use a profile structure style that has "part masking" turned off. That creates the problem of it not "trimming" the pipe you are actually profiling to the edge of the structure.

It's sort of a trade off. Show both or none. I wish they'd fix this.

Ok, first let me apologize for what may seem like a refusal to see the obvious.

I just figured out the issue with ellipses in the profile and I suspect the cross sections also. For the 30+ years that I have been drafting (starting first with hand drafting), we have always thought of the Center line, Alignment, Section line, what ever you want to call it as a theoretical plane through which you are going to view something. After decades of automatically disregarding the backside of an object I had just sliced with my theoretical plane, I was automatically disregarding the backside in Civil 3D. However when you have a three dimensional part that is crossed by this plane Civil 3D can not disregard the backside and thus an ellipse is shown.

That was a wish list I submitted last year. I wished there was a setting (say 5') to show any crossing pipes within 5' of the alignment. It is really annoying to bring in a utility network just to show a few crossings and it comes in all crazy.
I have had an ellipse come in the entire length of the profile also.

    Avn,

Move your alignment off the pipe and you will see the ellipses disappear.
