    Default Flat Sided Duct Transitions

    Hi Guys

I have been playing around with this for the last few day and have got no where with it well no where that is usefull but what i am trying to create or get a hold of is a transition from say a 1000mm x 1000mm to a 1500mm x 750mm duct and keep the bottom side and or one side flat not an equal transition like all ones in the Revit libary

Try changing your Justification settings. If I set my duct justification to Right I get the attached transition. You can play with the settings after the fact but it is easier to do from the beginning.

Have you found this difficult on some transitions?

like if the transition is too great it wan't let you. I guess thats Revit's way of telling me to put a duct inbetween, but this gets anoying sometimes.

Like middle duct has flat left transition in one end and right flat on the other end? Doesn't really like that when I give it a go.

A similar problem for me is if I have an offset in two planes with a change in duct size. If I use the OOTB rectangular offset it breaks the logical link along the ductwork run. Anyone know how to fix this?

    Ian / anyone,

Brendan and I went to great lengths to create a family to get around this one, because as you say, the out-of-the-box transition (took me a while to realise what OOTB stood for!) doesn't always work as we would want it to.

We called the family "universal duct transition.rfa"...it's a bit cumbersome but it seems to do everything you could ever want it to, ie, flat on any side, top or bottom, it can offset and transform at the same time, and its' length isn't governed by the offset angles either, meaning that it can be as short as any site constraints may require it to be. Oh, and of course, it maintains conectivity, too.

OK, one cold beer for the 'universal duct tranny' (as in 'transition', not 'transformer'...).

Could you post the family? I would love another way to skin the cat.

    Sorry, Bearden
    Go here for explanation:

(Besides, it's created with metric units so I guess it wouldn't be much use to you or any of our American friends anyway!!)

No worries, I understand. I do need to work on my family creation skills.
