Default Attaching railings to sloped roofs ?

Anyone know how to attach railings to a sloped roof ?

I´m working on a large project, where the sloped roofs is accessible for the public, therefore I need to add railings along all the edges.
The roofs where created, by modeling a mass with the complex shape, and then created with the “roof by face” tool.
Figured that maybe the mass could be of use, since I can´t set the roof to host the railings, but no luck so far.

I realize that I might have to manually create ramps or floors, that have the same complex shape as my roof, but REALLY hope that someone can think of an easier way ? Thanks.

Perhaps make the "roof" a Floor--as the public will be walking on it--
then the Railings can be hosted by the Floor.

Just a suggestion--not sure about hosting railing on sloped roof--try
using "rehost" or "pick host" options----

    cheers...

Question Re: Attaching railings to sloped roofs ?

    Thanks Cliff.

Can´t make the "roof" af floor, since it´s created from a complex masselement. But you´re right, it´s both a floor and a roof.

No luck with "rehost" or "pick host" - I can add a facia to the the roof edge, but then again, cant get a facia to look like a railing

Any other ideas how to do this ?

Question Re: Attaching railings to sloped roofs ?

Another way might be to make a curtainwall, with empty curtain panels, and use a custom mullion profile and mullion spacing to make a "railing" that can be created from the Mass object?

    cheers.....

Along a similar line to what Cliff was suggesting, how about creating a very thin floor (5mm) at the roof level - the roof of course remains as is, the railing will then attach automatically?

I guess one could also create an invisible floor.

    Cheers,

Or create the floor exactly where the roof is and later filter it off. Another option would be creating this floor in another workset that's off by default in all views.

Red face Re: Attaching railings to sloped roofs ?

    Thanks guys.

The curtain wall option could be the solution. However, I like the floor/railing soulution better - My concern is how to create the complex shape of the floor ? I can´t just pick the faces of my mass, like I did to create the roof.... any suggestions ?

Maybe an API tool to convert a roof to a floor ? (I wish)

Can you post an image from the roof so we can see how complex is it?

Try creating Floors, attached to work planes/reference planes for each section of the "roof". This will be more tedious than quickly converting the faces to roofs--But
once floors are in place, the railings will hosted by them.

    cheers.....
