    Default Image over Topo Surface

We are starting to work a little more with topo surfaces in Revit now, and I have a user wondering if it is possible drape an image over a topo surface, so it conforms to the surface in Revit, like can be done in Sketch-up. I know Revit is not a rendering tool perse, but is this possible in Revit. from going thru the help file, it says an image can only be imported into a 2D View. any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

I thought I had this actually figured out. We tried using a JPG of the aerial, and applying it to the surface as a material. this would have worked, but for whatever reason, the image was mirrored and rotated when applied. It looked like it would have conformed to the topo surface, if it had not been for that issue.

Hi! You have to tweak it a little to get it to work. You might have to change the size and rotate the image in the material settings to get this to work. It is not easy. This would be a slam dunk in 3d Max by the way.

I've known about this cool tip for a few years using Accurender, and yes allot of tweeking is required to get the image in the correct location & orientation.
There is no reason why this tip won't work with any render package as long as you can import a raster image as a surface pattern. Also note that you can do this method to apply an image to a background surface, which will help the Mental rays lack of funtionality in this area.
