Default Changes to AutoCAD layers when imported to Revit

We have a site plan made up of multiple AutoCAD files. We referenced them into one file, then imported it into Revit. Changes were made to the layers in the composite AutoCAD file, but in Revit the layers from the individual files show instead. I am looking for any tips on keeping the layers the same when importing them.

Could you elaborate about your process of changing the layers? And do you mean Link or Import? Thanks.
