    Question Sloped Window Sill

My architect is wanting a sloped precast window sill on our windows. The wall type to be used on is Brick on CMU (A variation of). I have not been fortunate to find a lot of information on the use of Solids and Voids beyond a paragraph here or there. I have seen it done in families created by others, but I cannot seem to figure out how they did it.

Does anyone have suggestions or maybe point me in the direction of some good literature.

You need to delete the opening in the OOTB window template, then use 2 voids to cut the openings you need. One goes all the way thru the wall, one only goes the depth of the veneer. Then add solid sweeps, extrustions etc to build up you window and sill.

    Question Re: Sloped Window Sill

Ok, so I have a basic wall. I removed the default opening and tried using an extruded void to creat the hole I needed. Revit just shows me a box in the wall but does not create a hole like the default opening. Is this correct or have I missed something?

I am only 2 months into Revit, forgive me for being a noob.

The only thing you are missing is to use the Cut geometry tool to cut the void out of the wall. You find the cut geometry tool just beside the Unjoin geometry tool at the options bar.

A tip - The Sill Height (Instance Parameter) will be Calculated off the Bottom of you Lowest most Void (the bottom of the sloped sill)! it a bit of a bug. bets to align the Head Heights of the Windows, not the Sills

Does the bug occur with a single void, or with two or more voids?

Scott it occurs with any number of them.
I have typically used 1 Void to Cut the Wall, then a second one to make the sill & Cladding rebates. Revit does its own calculations of the Sill Height & even Head Height, and is not always the same as what has been entered in the family.

    Wink Re: Sloped Window Sill

OR--one could convincingly argue that the precast sill is not part of the window--

so you could just add the Sweep to the walls at the window openings........

the precast is part of the masonry in the Wall system.

    cheers.......
