    Default Array about center

    Hi all,

Trying to create a railing balluster/picket that starts from a center point and arrays 5" on center both ways at the same time.

I can create one that starts at the end and goes in one direction, but not both.

I tried creating two actions and chaining the secondary to the primary but to no avail.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks much,

    mg

this is as close as I could get.

its only quirk is that you stretch the block using the linear paramater arrowhead on the right side. then, after you have that snapped, you have to grab the polar parameter (square) grip on the left and snap it right back to where it was, then the ballisters show up on the left side. its a shame you cant set the array distance to a negative distance.

i had to create two ballisters over top of each other also because you cant have two array actions on one object.

    hope this helped..

Attached is my Porch Railing block. It is of a pvc rail with wood core and solid pvc pickets.
It has four visibility states, and stretches equally in both directions from the center.
The first visibility has a picket in the center.
The second has a space in the center, for whenever it wants to have a space larger than 4" at the ends. Try it.
The other visibilities are sections, one on a hidden layer.
(I guess I could add a plan and plan-section to all that, but not today.)

The block inserts at the bottom center, and may then be adjusted for height, via the lookup parameter in the center.
It stretches both ways with either grip at the top ends.
The one stretch at the bottom is there in case the bottom rail contacts at a different place, as with a column base board.

I think the coolest thing about it is the wipeouts at each picket.
If you send it to the front [Tools, Draw Order, Send to Front], everything behind it (like a window elevation) gets hidden, and you don't have to explode and trim everything else.

Speaking of Array about the center, is it possible to do a DB with a true circular array?

Dynamic Blocks are the next best thing to actually having Revit.

    Enjoy.

    Frank,
    Sorry for the delayed response.
Your example is what I was looking for. I'll disect it and try again.
I had made my pickets from rectangles...maybe that was the problem.
    I'll give it another shot.

I'm not following the "wipeouts" part of your post. Not a command that I'm familar with.

    Thanks much,

Wipeouts are objects that hide whatever is "under" them. they have to be constructed of straight lines, or derived from closed polylines that do not have any arcs.
Sometimes, i get lost in my own thoughts and need to ask directions to find my way back.
