Slab edge not at wall moves on wall move.

Why does a slab edge move, when a wall moves, and the slab edge is nowhere near the wall?

For example, we notice when a lift core wall is moved, a slab edge on the outside of the building will move, as well as the edge that is touching the wall.

It is ok the slab edge on the wall moves with the wall. BUT IT IS DEADLY when the outside edges move as well. Sometimes we miss a change revit has done and it goes out wrong. Sometimes i think the parametric fuss if barley worth the fuss, with the amount of back checking and back editing you have to do.


Does anyone have any techniques to resolve this?

Yes this happens often, when you create the slab opening in the slab sketch. You shouldn't have this problem if using the shaft opening tool.

True some of my early models I made this mistake. Still have a few issues even when shaft openings and opening by face are used.

I believe this is a critical issue with the software. Anytime you have a complex/compound slab edge moving elements can be a nightmare, and this gets exponentially worse with the number of independant floor slabs you have. The best solution I have found is to group your slab edges. This way moving other elements does not affect the slabs.
I am hoping future releases of Revit have an option to disable this feature as a whole or at least per element.

I would be supportive of your suggestion here. an option to turn the dynamic slab edge moving off. On major re-designs we would rather see what the slab was before not what the software dynamically changed it to. .... hope autodesk are reading hint hint

are there constraints added during sketching of the slab?

i have found this can be problematic.

Also if you use the pick wall tool for creating the slab edge, that will associate the sketch line with the wall.
