Can you build this duct auto?

Can I use the auto function to build wye ducts or do they have to be created as a family?

Complex fittings have to be placed manually, there are several in the new content extension. Be carefull with the elevations all matching before you try and connect it all.

This is a perfect situation for the autoroute function to actually work. Select the 3 ducts to be connected then select autoroute and have multiple options of wye, pair of paints, ect to select from. Maybe this should be added to the wishlist.... It would definitely be a nice time saver while modeling.

There is a defult family that looks very similar to what you want to achieve. If you want to compress it more just adjust the family parameter length of that defult wye.
