In RMEP the floor plans of linked files automatically shade on the display. This is great on screen but plots far too light. How can I adjust how light these are?
btw - Using KIP 5000 & 3000 plotters

Setting menu > Object Style > Imported Objects tab > override line color .. by increasing line weight (I prefer increasing all the lines to 3) or changing tone of color (darker grey 075-075-075) . which overrides the link file in all views.
Other things i have tried was made the link (xref) file layers all white and line weight 1 in AutoCAD then link this file back to revit and its turns out to look good on kip 3000 which you would notice the difference between the link file to your revit work.
I dont gaurantee anything here as I have the same issue and cant seem to find any solution other than the ones given here.
Another method you can use is by going into File>Print>Printer properties (kip 3000) and changing your output format from Kip GL to Kip Script and lower your contrast in Halftone color adjustment for darker grey works too.. this fix my issue with link files/over lays/halftone.
When you go into the V/G Overrides on the views, for the linked file, expand it. There is the file name you are expecting to see, plus another name underneath it. This second name is the specific instance of the linked file. This will actually cause the elements in the linked file to have their lineweights, line colors over-ridden.
If you set it to custom, and then override the line color of the elements you want to see, this will adjust the color, intensity, lineweight for items in the linked views.
This not NOT documented clearly enough for most people to pick up on it. Care to comment Jeff H?
I'm having the same issue. I have a DWG linked in and I can't change the lines to black since it automatically half tones them. I've set every override I can find to black. The only way i was able to set any lines to black was to click linework and click on the lines. Not an option.
It is impossible to read any of the text on the DWG or see any of the equipment.and we're receiving complaints about it.
Someone here found a fix, we linked the cad files into a new revit file, set the views to architectural, linked it into our model, and then set the link view settings to by linked view.
Comes out nice and black.
Scott - I understand how to override the settings for linked models per view. I'm trying to get away from that method though. I would like to set this somewhere in my template so every new project when I link an arch model it is set correctly for my environment. Manual background adjustment in per project, per view is waaay too tedious.
There probably is no sure fire way to do this. Best I have come up with is get a "blank" Revit file from an Architect, and name it something Like "Architectural File". Then link it into your template file while you have the template open for editing. Now you can set up your views, etc. based upon this name. When you get a file from an Architect, then using this name, select the Reload From, and navigate to where you put the architects real file, and select it. It will rename the file, and all settings associated.
I would strongly suggest setting up view templates for the differing types of views, including settings for the linked file. Then you can quickly apply this to new views you create.
Also, in 2010, you can adjust the intensity of the Halftone setting so it can plot better. I also use a Blue color that plots a light gray, and seems more controllable that the halftone on Kip Plotters. (It is three from Right and second down from top row.)
