    Default Door family Yes/No dimension

is it possible to have a door family with a visiblity for yes/no for a dimension?

i would like to be able to turn on and off the opening width from frame to door.

hi, with the Lifetimes Home guide, we need to show that the door has a clear opening when open from the door to the internal frame (the actual clear opening width)

    hope this makes sense

No. Families cannot have printing dimensions in them. You'll have to dimension the door in the project drawing.

Perhaps you could draw symbolic lines to resemble a dimension, and set a visibility parameter to them, then create a label that equals a dimension parameter in the family for clear opening? Just a though, I have no idea if it would work.

You could probably have a calculated shared parameter in the door family that equals the clear opening value, and then include a tag for that parameter in the door tag. But it wouldn't read as a proper dimension with tickmarks etc.

You could also create an Annotation Family that looks like a dimension and contains the needed parameter that displays like a dimension. Then, nest that Annotation Family into your door family with a calculated parameter to suit your needs, then link the two parameters and voila! You now have a door family that, when placed, has the "dimension" in your documentation. You could also place a visibility parameter on the nested Annotation Family so you could turn it off if necessary.

I would add another parameter in the door families, and input or calculate this dimension. I would then create a label for this parameter if you truely need to view this in plan, or just put it in a schedule...

    I hope this helps,
