Question Audiovisual- are there any standards?

I recently was hired by an audiovisual consultant as a CAD Manager, part of my responsibilities include setting up standards for our drawings. As of my hiring there was very little consistency between drawings, every drafter kind of just did their own thing. It is my goal to have every station set up the same so that everyone is using the same Dimension Styles, Multileader Styles, and Text Styles to help establish a solid sheet to sheet look. My first thought is to create all of these styles in a single "Standard" file and create common tool pallets for each drafter. I would also like to establish a standard layering system but can't seem to find much on layer names for audiovisual trades. Any ideas?

    Good Luck !!! LOL

Seriously though currently there aren't any true "CAD standards" for the A/V Field.

My suggestion would be to follow NCS and treat your company as a "trade", meaning label all of your layers clearly so if you have to work with an architect that uses NCS your drawings will integrate seamlessly.

Be sure to set up a template with these layers, dim styles, and text styles so everyone is always starting from the same base.

    Hope that helps.

First of all let me welcome you to AUGI.

Secondly I’m just going to throw out some general thoughts…..

I hope that your management is 100% behind you, not just verbally but some kind of standards enforcement must be setup and consistently followed. Otherwise you’re going to quickly end up looking like this guy---->

Think through your standards so that you can implement them in stages. Introduce a stage let people get use to it, tweak as needed and move to the next stage.

I would not get hung up on a particular national cad standard. The most important thing is consistency. If your drawings are consistent you can easily convert your drawings to another companies’ standards.

Search this site for existing threads that cover this topic.

Post more specific ideas and questions to be able to get more feedback.

    Finally Good Luck!
