Cool File Versions?

Is their a way to find out what version a file is? IE I save / export a Civil 3D drawing to AutoCAD 2009 version. Then I need to save a copy back to 2004 and 2000 versions. Is there a way to see what version a file is currently saved at? I know in my past life we could get the programmers to look at the code and it told them what version it was. Can an average use tell?

Default Re: File Versions?

I used to use a explorer shell extension called DWG-icon that changed the file icon to whatever version it was.
I think it only works up until 2007, so we stopped using it after that release, but I think it's still avaiable.

I found the list to translate the code...

Open the dwg in notepad the first caricters tell you the version it was last saved as...

AC1024 = 2010, 2011
AC1021 = 2007, 2008, 2009
AC1018 = 2004, 2005, 2006
AC1015 = 2002, 2000i, 2000
AC1014 = 14
AC1012 = 13
AC1009 = 12, 11
AC1006 = 10
AC1004 = 9
AC1002 = 2
