Any Issues with XREF Title Blocks/ Borders?

I need your experience and insight on whether to set up XREF title blocks and drawing borders. Currently, I am converting older CAD drawings from plain text to attributed blocks and am considering the XREF option.

PURPOSE:
I am considering the use of XREF's title block & drawing border to minimize time spent on updates.

QUESTION:
What problems do you foresee or experienced?
I have never constructed or tested this option yet. The problem I see is that if the XREF's title blocks change, the locally-based file attributes will possibly be misplaced.
Correct?

BACKGROUND:
I recently joined this company (Oct 08) as a full-time designer in an engineering support department as the sole full version AutoCAD and Inventor user and am involved in introducing standardized CAD practices.
